Ghanaian wood mask, 'Turtle Man Trust'
Centering his forehead, a turtle gazes curiously at the features of a man. Abdul Karim Star carves a mask of bold beauty, contrasting light and dark colors. He names it Bashunge, or "Trust" in the language of Ghana's Hausa people. Such masks remain in the family home, representing the bond of trust among them.
